I have a male cat of 9 years, and we adopted him when he was a year old. He was my birthday present when I was 10yrs old. I had pestered my parents to get me a kitten for ages before they finally allowed me to have a kitten. My mum was not comfortable with animals ever since she got bitten on the ankle by a stray dog.
SPCA has a regulation that the whole family must be present to adopt any animal from them. So after much persuasion from my dad and I, my mum followed us to the compound. When we reached, I went straight to the kittens who were in a cage together. The interesting thing about cats is that they tend to choose you and not the other way around. My cat, Tinkie (named by his previous owner), chose us when he hooked my mum's t-shirt with his claws as she walked by his cage.
As you can see from the picture above, Tinkie has a long coat. That was what drew my mum to him when he clawed her t-shirt. It was like "love-at-first-sight" for my mum and Tinkie. My mum was not the only one interested in Tinkie, another couple was looking at him. I was not as fond of Tinkie as my mum was until the SPCA staff told me to hold him in my arms. I was reluctant at first as I wanted a kitten and Tinkie was already a young adult cat. When I held him in my arms, I fell for him.Within minutes my dad had signed the papers and we were driving back home.
Tinkie now lives with us as happy as a cat can be. He has his own fears and strengths. Thunder, the vet and the vacuum cleaner scares him. He loves to play tag with my dad and sometimes, for the fun of it, my mum, who will in turn scream and scold him. He does that to me too but he knows I am not as scared as my mum so he doesn't really play tag with me a lot. Tinkie also loves to hide in paper bags and luggages. He will not meow at you unless he is asking for something like food or treats. Tinkie also loves to sleep with me every night and he even has his own blanket on my bed.
Tinkie is the cat of my life and without him I would have not been able to understand how to appreciate the cats that we take for granted at the coffee shops and markets in Singapore.
So next time when you see a cat on the road, remember, that they too have feelings and dreams. Treat them well!

An interesting first post that introduces your love for cats. I take it that you will be sharing more about all things cats in your blog.
You have a personal conversational style of writing that is easy to read. While that is good, remember to keep focused on your blog theme and not turn it into a personal blog.
Some nice photos - you could add captions to them.
Blogroll? Internal post links?
You've got such an adorable cat. From your post, i can tell that you love your cat a lot too. I've always wanted to keep pets like dogs and cats but it's a shame some of my family members have asthma and are allergic to fur. Nice job here!
i love cats too! i want to get a Ragdoll, because i like the personality. i would rather get a cat than a dog since i'm pretty sure the dog would die a pretty slow and gruesome death since i'm a bad owner. i'm pretty sure a cat would take good care of itself and it's more independent anyway. nice blog!
Danielle: Hey! Maybe next time when you have a family, you'll be able to keep one. :) Dogs and cats are great for kids to learn about responsibility. :)
YuJing: Ragdolls! I love them! Bella is a ragdoll mix! And he is super cute! I'm thinking of getting another one too! I was looking out for Munchkins or a Ragdoll. I agree that cats might be a better option for busy people. They somehow make you learn how to relax after school or work. Hope you get one soon!
really? Bella is a Ragdoll mix? that's cool! i've always thought Ragdolls are really rare.
i dun think i'll be able to get a cat soon though, because my mother is scared of furry stuffs that moves on it's own. :P
